Meet the Team Behind Your ACT Preparation

International Academics matches students with experienced educators for the ACT sections they need. We discuss recent work, goals and availability before recommending a tutor.

For mathematics support, meet James Quarrington, our founder and an experienced mathematics teacher and examiner. Explore our tutor team to read about their backgrounds and specialisms.

Lessons are online. We confirm section coverage, time zones and availability before arranging sessions, and review the student’s progress as preparation develops.

What Working With an ACT Tutor Online Actually Looks Like

Most students who struggle with the ACT are not struggling with effort, they are missing a structured, expert-led approach. Our ACT prep tutors work across four core areas to make sure nothing is left to chance between now and test day.

1. Diagnostic Assessment First: Strategy Follows

We review recent scores, practice work and the student’s planned test sections to identify priorities. The starting point may be a diagnostic task or a discussion of recent assessments. The resulting plan focuses on gaps in understanding, recurring mistakes and pacing.

2. One-on-One Sessions Tailored to the Individual

Lessons are one-to-one and tailored to the student’s current needs. Tutors explain concepts, work through examples and use independent practice to check understanding. The focus can change as stronger areas emerge and new priorities become clear.

3. Section-by-Section Content Mastery

ACT preparation focuses on English, Mathematics and Reading, with Science support for students taking that optional section. Science and Writing do not affect the ACT Composite score. Tell us your planned sections so we can confirm a suitable tutor and use practice that matches your test.

4. Exam Strategy and Pressure Management

Content knowledge alone does not produce top ACT scores, pacing, decision-making under time pressure, and knowing when to move on are equally critical skills. Our ACT prep tutors embed strategic test-taking into every stage of preparation, from early sessions through to full timed practice exams with detailed tutor feedback. Students leave not just knowing the material, but knowing how to perform, reliably and confidently, on the day it matters most.

ACT Tutoring: Your Questions Answered

Which sections can you help with?

We arrange support for English, Mathematics and Reading, and Science for students taking that optional section. Tell us your planned sections so we can confirm tutor coverage and availability.

Is Science part of the Composite score?

The ACT Composite is based on English, Mathematics and Reading. Science and Writing are optional and do not affect it. Check the requirements for your school, test registration and intended universities before choosing sections.

How do we plan the number of lessons?

We review recent scores or practice work, the test date and available study time before recommending a plan. Progress depends on the starting point and practice between sessions; a particular score is not guaranteed.

Can you help with pacing?

Yes. Tutors use targeted questions and timed practice to help students identify inefficient approaches, review recurring mistakes and make better decisions under time pressure.
